The
River
I
sat by the river and looked out to the sea
It’s
calm tranquillity washed peace over me
Not
a ripple disturbed it as it flowed gently by
Under
the glory of a clear moonlit sky
Gently
the boat beneath me did sway
As
the night washed away the remains of the day
Only
the hum of an engines dull drone
Served
to remind me I wasn’t alone
In
the calm I reflected on the day that just passed
As
I prayed that the peace of this moment would last
And
my life I surveyed on this chill Autumn night
What
I’d got wrong and what I’d got right
The
friends I have made and the loves I have lost
The
errors I’ve made and what they have cost
The
fun and the laughter I’ve seen in my life
The
sadness that stabbed at my heart like a knife
The
love I have felt for others so dear
The
hopes I still have along with the fears
The
friendship I’ve shown and received in return
The
children whose trust and respect I have earned
The
journeys I’ve made, the things that I’ve seen
The
person I am and the person I’ve been
Thoughts
in my mind from times long ago
Washed
through my head in a slow gentle flow
Just
a moment of calm at the end of the day
When
I thought of the things that life brought my way
Just
a moment of peace that was given to me
As
I watched the calm river flow down to the sea
I
ran through my life as I sat quietly there
And
thought of the love and the joy I have shared
I
let all of the sad thoughts slip from my grasp
And
sat there in peace as the river flowed past
